Spring 2021 • Mountain Dwellers: Wild Living Skills • Thursdays, March 4 - May 27, with a break on April 22 (12 days total)
As we research the history of "Mountain People" with a focus on the various cultures of the Appalachian Mountains, we will delve into a variety of arts and crafts such as carving and coal burning our own spoons, bowls and other functional items, making pottery from clay, wild harvesting edible plants for food and medicine and more. We will also explore the legends of the mountains, and learn a few mountain songs and cook some traditional food over an open fire.
Working as team students will recreate a mini mountain village with shelter, a mini kitchen for cooking, a fire circle to sit around, tell stories, play games and sing songs. When not building and crafting we'll take the opportunity to explore our surroundings, do some tracking and discover which animals are living in the forest around us.
