Description

Firekeepers is an invitation only program happening this Spring/Summer for boys ages 12-14.  The program consists of 5 Sundays (March - May)  Our intention is to challenge them physically, push them to continue developing their forest skills, provide a safe space to express themselves, and will including:

  • Going deeper into fire building and tending using flint and steel, bowdrill, and hand drill
  • Wilderness Survival Skills Training
  • Physically challenging exercises and activities
  • Get-real talks where young men can express themselves about issues relevant to them
  • Team Building exercises that build a sense of community and belonging
  • Music Making, Rhythm and song
  • Next level naturalist skills
  • Focus on healthy lifestyle and holistic living skills
This program is also intended to be a gateway into Forest Floor's Boys Sacred Fire Initiation (BSFI).  BSFI is a Rite of Passage ceremony for young men happening in August(before public school starts back up) each year.  Participation in the Firekeepers program does not mean that your boy must participate in Boys Sacred Fire Initiation nor does it imply that your boy is definitely eligible and ready this year.   But the Firekeepers program is intended to build a relationship of trust and prepare boys for the initiation ceremony. 
Additional Details:
  • Michael Ismerio will be calling families individually to discuss the process of joining the Boys Sacred Fire Initiation and how to know when a boy is ready for the initiation.  
  • Regardless of your family's participation in Boys Sacred Fire, this Fire Tenders program will help tend the relationship between your young man and his internal fire.
