Description

 

Fall 2023   •   Tuesday Intermediate Blacksmithing   •   Ages 12-16   •   Tuesdays, September 5 - December 12 , with breaks on the weeks of October 2-8 (for Earthskills Rendezvous) and November 20-26(for Thanksgiving)  [13 program days total]

 

Now that you’ve got the basics, it’s time to take your Blacksmithing skills to the next level.  Having established a foundational knowledge of Blacksmithing to work from, you’re ready to try your hand at increasingly challenging projects and advanced smithing techniques. Gather around the forge with a group of experienced students and take the next step in becoming an artisanal craftsperson.
 

Pre-requisites

Intermediate Blacksmithing is only available to students who’ve attended either:

     - At least 1 of our weekly Fall or Spring Blacksmithing programs, OR
     - At least 2 of our Blacksmithing and/or Knife Making summer camps or Saturday Series.
 
 
Portfolio
Students will develop a portfolio of work over the course of the program.  The specifics of each portfolio will vary from season to season and by level of the class(Fundamentals or Intermediate), but examples of items in past seasons include:
  • Hanging hooks
  • Toilet paper or paper towel holder
  • Twisted Fork
  • Riveted Spoon
  • Riveted Spatula
  • Copper Finger Ring
  • Fire Poker
  • Chisel or Screwdriver
  • Knife crafted from a railroad spike
At the end of the season, those students who present a complete portfolio of work will receive a Certificate of Completion to commemorate their achievement.

Participants must be 12 years to 16 years old when the program starts.
