Spring 2022 Homeschool • Mythical Creatures • Ages 5-7 • Thursdays, March 3 - May 26, with a break on April 21 (12 program days total)
With hands-on exploration, games, and a big helping of imagination, children will dive into the world of the animals who share the forests and streams with us at Shope Creek Wilderness. We’ll get to know these fabulous creatures – the ones right under our noses and the ones who are hidden away – through a rich combination of science, stories, and experiential nature connection. We may even meet a few magical beasts along the way!
Children may:
- Learn about animal tracking and search for animal signs
- Make their own plaster cast of an animal track
- Track down the wily and elusive Appalachian Wooly Rarely-Spotted Neem
- Explore pond and stream for amazing aquatic life
- Become another creature for a day!
- Make their own animal field guides
- Practice animal movement, stalking, and camouflage
- Enjoy crafts, games, songs, and stories
- Participate in other activities such as shelter-building, firecraft, and edible plants
